Lorrie Callaway - Grade 5 - Owls Head School
Tell us about yourself
I have a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from the University of ME at Farmington. I also have a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of ME at Orono, and my Assistant Principal certificate from the University of Southern Maine.
I began my career in Special Education before entering the regular classroom where I began in a 3-4 Multi- age classroom. I came to the former MSAD # 5 in 2000 teaching 2nd grade at McDougal School in Rockland before joining the Owls Head community in 2004. I taught 2nd grade here for one year, and have been teaching 3rd grade ever since.
What is your parent contact plan?
I encourage parents to contact me via email or by calling the school to set up an appointment. It is very difficult to meet with parents during the day, but before and after school appointments can be arranged. My philosophy is “If I don’t know there is a problem, I cannot fix it!” Please let me know when there is a problem, no matter how small it seems, so we can work together to make your child’s school experience a positive one.
What are your homework guidelines?
Homework at the 3rd grade level should average about 30 minutes per night. There is also the expectation for your child to read at least 15 minutes each night. Please check your child’s homework nightly to be sure it is done correctly. My hope is that parents will be actively involved with their child’s education through their homework. Thanks for your assistance!
